Russia 1831-SP NG 10 kopeks
This specimen was lot 537 in Sincona sale 19 (Zurich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 15,000 (about US$18,798 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "10 Kopecks 1831, St. Petersburg Mint, HГ. Rare as a proof! Choice brilliant proof with magnificent rainbow patina." This type is listed for 1826-31 and is rather scarcer than the succeeding type (KM C164.1). Copper ten kopeks (= grivennik) were also struck in the 1830's.
Recorded mintage: 450,000 plus a few proofs.
