Eliasberg lot 3242
Mexico 1818 2 escudos rev Eliasberg AN31217820-rz.jpg

This specimen was lot 3242 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $3,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "1818 2 escudos. Mexico City mint. MS-61 (NGC). Types as above. Highly lustrous yellow gold with some prooflike reflectivity. An exceptional Mint State specimen with a gem quality reverse. From Stack's sale of the Col. James W. Flanagan Collection, March 1944, Lot 278." All dos escudos of Mexico are scarce, the colonial issues more so, and the standard bust issues of Ferdinand VII especially so. A few dozen examples may exist of all dates (1814-20) together.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW. This specimen: 6.76 grams, 22.40 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 134, Fr-55.
