Aureo sale 238, lot 449

This specimen was lot 449 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 95 euro (about US$151 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1791. Potosí. PR. 8 reales. Primer año de busto propio. Escasa. MBC+. (eight reales of 1791, Potosí mint, first year of bust of Charles IV. Scarce, choice very fine.)"

The SCWC lists this first year of the type about 40% higher than the common dates. The assayer PR appears for 1776-95.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce.

Specification: 27.07 grams, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
