Stack's Bowers October 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73626

This specimen was lot 73626 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Pesos, 1986-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. World Cup. On the verge of perfection, this blinding white example is sure to impress." In addition to the copper-nickel circulating coin (KM 495), this denomination was used for several silver commemoratives of the World Cup (KM 504, KM 515, KM 498 and KM 523,shown here). This one doesn't have a high catalog value but it is seldom seen.
