Sincona sale 84, lot 220

This specimen was lot 220 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 34,000 CHF (about US$45,786 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Poltina 1810, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB FG. Very rare in this condition. 3 roubles according to Petrov. 3 roubles according to Ilyin. NGC MS64. Cabinet piece with attractive patina. From the Soedermann Collection, auction SINCONA 12, Zürich, October 2013, lot 434 (price realized: CHF 60,000)."

This poltina, with the date above the eagle, was struck 1808-10 but the 1810, rare as it is, is the only collectible date. The poltina with the date below the eagle (KM C129) was struck 1810-26.

Recorded mintage: 79,000, including KM C129.

Specification: 10.36 g, 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 10.56 g.
