Bern 1796 2 ducats Fr-179
This specimen was lot 32281 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland: Bern. Canton gold 2 Ducat 1796 MS64 Prooflike NGC, A near-gem example with a fine, bold strike, sharply reflective fields and an apricot-gold patina. A quality example that should see spirited competition. From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection." This one year type contains nearly the same amount of gold as the duplone struck the same year. It was the first double ducat struck since 1789.
