The first specimen was lot 1184 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $632.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Fernando VII, 1808-1821. 8 Reales, 1809 Mo TH. Mexico City. Imaginary mailed bust r. Rv. Crowned Arms, Pillars. Magnificent glowing silver lustre beautifies an exacting impression of the dies, a touch of clear gold adds significantly to this coin's startling beauty and appeal. Here is a coin as splendid as the day it dropped from the dies. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated." This type was struck 1808-11.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common in circulated condition.
