Stephen Album internet sale 28, lot 922

This specimen was lot 922 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL: Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634, AR 1 groschen, 1619, PCGS graded AU55." This denomination, listed in the SCWC as a 1/24 thaler, was struck in at least three dozen varieties in 1619. This one is among several depicting a stag and the legend "ORA ET LABORA" ("pray and work"), a message obviously intended for the peasants.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-121, Welter-1295.
