Steve Album Auction 53, lot 2924

This specimen was lot 2924 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $188. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL: Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634, AE 3 pfennig, Regenstein, 1621, scarce type, a lovely lustrous caramel red-brown mint state example! PCGS graded MS63 RB, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. Frederick lost control of his government between 1616 and 1622 due to his alcoholism, with his mother and uncle, King Christian IV of Denmark, taking over and appointing a corrupt administration that caused economic collapse. He later regained power with the help of the nobility, but his weak leadership led to Brunswick being devastated during the Thirty Years' War, resulting in significant territorial losses." Other dreier struck in 1621 include KM 133, KM 234, KM 236 and KM 238. Some were likely kipper issues. This example strongly resembles but is not the plate coin in the SCWC. One thaler was 96 dreier.
