Sincona sale 95, lot 4696

This specimen was lot 4696 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$3,049 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Dukat 1756/53, Zürich. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1753 geändert. Fast FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, ducat of 1756, Zürich mint, 1756/3 overdate. About Mint State, Magnificent condition.)"

This type was struck 1718-61, 1767. Despite the many years of issue, it is still expensive. In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
