This coin, called a cinquième d'écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a twenty cent piece. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the 1/5 écu = 24 sols. The type was struck 1741-72 and is recorded for the Bourges mint ("Y") for 1744-49. All dates of this mint are rare and this specimen is believed to be unique. The Bourges mint closed in 1771.

Specification: 5.9 g, 0.917 fine silver, 26 mm diameter.
