Sincona sale 57, lot 2777

This specimen was lot 2777 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$191 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Empire | Anhalt, Herzogtum, Friedrich I. 1871-1904. 2 Mark 1876 A, Berlin. Sehr schön. Patina. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt, Frederick I, 1871-1904, two mark of 1876, Berlin mint. Very fine, Patina.)"

This type was struck 1876 only and is fairly scarce. It is listed in the SCWC under "Anhalt-Dessau" but as the other branches of Anhalt, Anhalt-Bernberg and Anhalt-Cothen, had gone extinct by 1863, the title on the coin is simply "HERZOG V. ANHALT."

Recorded mintage: 200,000.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter, this specimen 11.03 g.

Catalog reference: KM 22, J. 19.
