This specimen was lot 822 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 2 reales, 1770 (V-Y). Chunky teardrop shape with sharp point, two bold dates, attractively toned VF, scarce this nice." Milled coinage was introduced at the Potosí mint in 1767 but the production of cobs did not cease. In fact, in 1771, milled coinage was suspended there. The mintmaster was rebuked for this and forced to return to milling coins in 1773 with the introduction of portrait coinage.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 6.75 grams.
Catalog reference: Cayón-11522, S-P57; KM-43; Cal-698.
