Künker sale 294, lot 3537

This specimen was lot 3537 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,022 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Friedrichs d'or 1782, A, Berlin. GOLD. Sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, frederick d'or of 1782, Berlin mint. Very fine.)"

This type was struck in Berlin 1775-86 and superseded an earlier type with a younger bust of the king (KM 309). These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn.

Recorded mintage: 667,760.

Specification: 6.68 g, 0.903 fine gold, this specimen 6.65 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-2411; Olding 435; Kluge 112.8, KM 333.
