Prussia 1783-A friedrichs d'or
This specimen was lot 4328 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 2,300 CHF (about US$3,060 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Brandenburg-Preussen, 1701 Königreich Friedrich II. 1740-1786. Friedrich d’or 1783. Belorbeertes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Gekrönter Adler auf Armaturen. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II, 1740-86, frederick d'or of 1783. Obverse: laureate bust to right; reverse: crowned eagle perches on arms. Very fine to good very fine)."
This type was struck in Berlin 1775-86 and superseded an earlier type with a younger bust of the king (KM 309). These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn.
