This specimen was lot 3469 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €500 (about US$696 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1783, A, Berlin. Greisenantlitz. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 6, Dortmund 1996, Nr. 248. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1783, Berlin mint, old head. Extremely fine.)"
This type was struck in large numbers 1775-86 at Berlin (shown here), Breslau and Königsberg. Because of its debased alloy, it was spent while other thalers were hoarded, resulting in few survivors in choice condition.
Recorded mintage: 545,297.
Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 22,04 g.
