from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice, lot 10109
SB225-10109r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10109 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €720 (about US$751). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Skilling, 1618. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC MS-62. Variation KM 16.2(c). Magnificent coin with a crisp strike and lovely toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1618 only and was worth 1/48 speciedaler. Oval shield (KM 55.1) and square topped shield (KM 55.2) varieties exist. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.59 g, 0.281 fine silver, 21.4 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-16.2; Hede-79D; Sieg-30.4; Schou-108; Bruun-5061.
