This specimen was part of lot 22229 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $329. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Rupees, 1919-C & 1921-B. 2 pieces in lot. A pair of problem free mint state coins. Both lustrous and attractive. The 1921 is graded NGC MS 62 and the 1919 is NGC MS 64." This rupee was struck at the Bombay mint after World War One. Wartime issues at Bombay (dot on reverse) and Calcutta (no dot) were large but dwindled and ceased after 1922, not to resume until 1935.
Recorded mintage: 5,115,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 11.66 g, 0.917 fine silver, .343 troy oz ASW.
