This specimen was lot 1480 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$304 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Joseph II. 1765-1790. 1/4 Kronentaler 1788 H, Günzburg. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. NGC MS64. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Austria, Joseph II, 1765-90, quarter kronenthaler of 1788, Günzburg mint. Rare in this condition, Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
This is listed as a rare date of a type struck for Joseph II at Günzburg (shown here), Vienna (mintmark "A") and Kremnitz (mintmark "B"). The SCWC lists this under the Austrian Netherlands, probably incorrectly, as it circulated all over the Hapsburg dominions and none were struck in Brussels. Similar half and full kronenthalers exist. The larger denominations were struck at Brussels, Vienna, Hall, Günzburg, Kremnitz, Nagybanya, Karlsburg and Prague. Günzburg was in the Austrian Burgau.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7.36 g, 0.873 fine silver, this specimen 7.40 g.
