This specimen was lot 71818 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Rupee, 1862-(C). Calcutta Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. A well struck and richly toned example with frosty devices and satiny surfaces." This date, the first after the abolition of the East India Company, was struck in large numbers 1862-73 in dozens of varieties at Madras, Bombay and Calcutta (shown here).
