Spain c1566 cuartillo rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is a Spanish quarter real struck at Burgos, Cuenca, Granada (shown here), Segovia, Toledo and Valladolid in 1566. As thirty four maravedis made a real, this coin was worth 8½ maravedis. It was theoretically made from vellon (debased silver) but we don't see any evidence of anything other than copper on this specimen.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: Cayón-3358.
