This specimen was lot 11027 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $9,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Pesos, 1877-DoP. NGC MS-63. VERY RARE Durango 5 Pesos. VERY RARE mint. NGC MS-63." The Durango mint is noted to have issued this denomination in 1873 and 1877-79 only, with all dates being scarce to rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 8.46 g, .875 fine gold, .238 troy oz AGW.
