Maldives 1984 10 laari rev DSLR.jpg

The Maldives are an island group in the Indian Ocean; they were a protectorate of Britain 1887-1968. The natives make their living by fishing. Global climate change, with its accompanying sea level rise, has made many Maldivians fear for the future of their homes. This type, featuring a sailing dhow, was struck 1984 only. It is the last of its denomination. We cannot explain the odd color of this example except for some strange reaction with the holder.

Recorded mintage: unknown plus 2,500 proofs.

Specification: 1.95 g, aluminum, 23.1 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 70.
