Maldives 1984 100 rufiyaa Fr-3
The Maldives are an island group in the Indian Ocean; they were a protectorate of Britain 1887-1968. The natives make their living by fishing. Global climate change, with its accompanying sea level rise, has made many Maldivians fear for the future of their homes. This specimen was lot 1091 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "MALDIVE ISLANDS: Second Republic, AV 100 rufiyaa, 1984/AH1404, UN Year of Disabled Persons - Full Participation & Equality, mintage of only 500 pieces! NGC graded Proof 67 ULTRA CAMEO, R. Only one graded higher by NGC." Another 100 rufiyaa (KM 66) was struck in silver for this occasion.

Specification: 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold (same standard as a British gold two pounds).
