Maldives 1982 rufiyaa rev DSLR.jpg

The Maldives are an island group in the Indian Ocean; they were a protectorate of Britain 1887-1968. The natives make their living by fishing. Global climate change, with its accompanying sea level rise, has made many Maldivians fear for the future of their homes. This type, featuring the national arms, was struck 1982 only. A similar design was struck in copper-nickel 1984, 1990 and 1996 (KM 73a).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.4 g, copper-nickel plated steel, 25.9 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 73.
