The specimen shown was lot 1327 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 125 euros (about US$206 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos IV (1788-1808). 1801. Madrid. FA. 2 reales. Preciosa pátina. Escasa así. EBC. (Charles IV, 1788-1808, two reales of 1801, Madrid mint; nice patina, scarce thus, extremely fine.)"
This type was issued at Seville and Madrid 1788-1808. Assayer FA is noted for 1801-07. The minors, especially one and two reales, are much more common than the pesos.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, .833 fine silver, .181 troy oz ASW.
