This specimen was lot 25101 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1723-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint. August Wilhelm. PCGS MS-62. Very pleasingly and enchantingly toned, this crown presents a great color along with a rather sharp, well defined wildman and coat-of-arms. Overall, a tantalizing representation from an ever-popular series." This type was struck 1714-30 and is fairly common. Another thaler (Dav-2127), struck 1716-30, featured the leaping stallion. One thaler was thirty-six mariengroschen.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: Dav-2126; KM-739; Welter-2376.
