SB923-74564r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74564 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 6 Mariengroschen (1/6 Taler), 1744-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. A delightful example of this issue with soft, satiny luster with just the merest hints of champagne toning. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1727-60 and is common. Another 1/6 thaler, KM 266 with a bust obverse, was also struck in this reign but not in 1744.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-180; Welter-2617.
