This specimen was lot 30324 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $5,405. The catalog description[1] noted, "Philip V gold Cob 8 Escudos 1738/7 L-N AU53 NGC, Lima mint, Well preserved with slight high-point wear defining the grade. A scarcer overdate of this elusive and popular gold issue, unlisted in both KM and the Onza reference. Rare and desirable in this engaging quality." This type is recorded for 1710-47. The Mexico City mint was converted to milled coinage in 1732-34 but Lima would not follow suit until 1751.

Recorded mintage: 129,603.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .798 troy oz AGW.
