This specimen was lot 25245 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $9,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Felipe V gold Cob 8 Escudos 1739L-N, AU55 NGC, nicely centered with full date, mintmark and assayer, a choice lustrous example of this fabled treasure from the New World." This type is recorded for 1710-47. The date is known with assayer N (shown here) and assayer V. The Mexico City mint was converted to milled coinage in 1732-34 but Lima would not follow suit until 1751.
