Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 243

This specimen was lot 243 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 9,000 € (about US$11,757 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1740/39. Felipe V. Lima. V. 8 escudos. Rev.: L-i8i-iV / Pi-iVi-A / 7i-i4i-0. King's name partially visible. Rare, we have only had six examples before, two with date correction. MBC+ [choice very fine]." This eight escudos was struck during the second reign of Philip V. Milled gold coinage commenced in Peru in 1751.

Recorded mintage: 70,070 including the regular date.
