Shown is a écu aux trois couronnes (écu with three crowns) struck at the Troyes mint for France in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. This is last type of écu struck during the Sun King's life. The type was struck 1709-15 in substantial numbers. There are also 1/10, 1/4 and 1/2 écus struck during this period with this design. This date is slightly scarce; Droulers[1] prices it about 30% higher than the common date (1713-A or 1715-A).

Recorded mintage: 410,949.

Specification: 30.59 g, .917 fine silver, edge lettered "DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM", designed by Norbert Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 no. 524, Dr/2 no. 450, Dav-1324, KM 386.18.
