This specimen was lot 72671 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 20 Soles, 1966. Lima Mint. NGC MS-67. A satiny luster creates a subtle beauty that is complimented by ever so slight toning. It is no surprise it is tied for the finest certified by NGC." This denomination, struck 1950-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold five, ten, fifty and hundred soles.
Recorded mintage: 4,001.
Specification: 9.36 g, 0.900 fine gold; 0.2709 oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Fr-80; KM-229.
