This specimen was lot 1858 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it sold for $152.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU: AV 5 soles, 1966. Mintage of only 4,738 pieces, only one piece graded higher by PGCS, PCGS graded MS65 Secure Holder, S." This denomination, struck 1956-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold ten, twenty, fifty and hundred soles.
