This specimen was lot 39549 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 5 Soles, 1969. NGC MS-66. RARE DATE. Mintage of 127. A true modern rarity, something the Lima Mint is known for creating from time to time, and seldom available. Bright shimmering untoned luster." This denomination, struck 1956-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece like her sisters, the gold ten, twenty, fifty and hundred soles.
