Peru 1969 50 soles Fr-77
This specimen was lot 30298 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,938.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 50 Soles 1969 MS64 NGC, Lima mint. Choice Mint State and fully brilliant with a very few scattered contact marks preventing the Gem designation. A scarce date of this popular type with a mintage of 443 pieces, quite elusive and vastly desirable in this lofty quality." This denomination, struck 1931-32 and 1967-69, was theoretically a circulating coin but actually was a bullion piece. A smaller fifty soles (Fr-79), with a seated liberty design, is more available.
Recorded mintage: 403.
Specification: 33.44 g, 0.900 fine gold, .961 troy oz AGW.
