Wurttemberg 1825-W gulden

Künker sale 335, lot 4533

This specimen was lot 4533 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €200 (about US$262 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH. Wilhelm I. 1816-1864. Gulden 1825. Sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Wurttemberg, William I, 1816-64, gulden of 1825. Very fine.)"

This gulden, the first struck in Wurttemberg since 1616, was one of three types struck 1824-25. All are rare. When production of the gulden resumed in 1837, the coin was reduced in weight to 10.60 g but raised to 0.900 fine silver so as to contain the same amount of silver.
