This specimen was lot 51116 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Penny, 1949. London Mint. George VI. PCGS PROOF-65 Red. The only fully red proof specimen seen at PCGS for the date, this provocative example seemingly leaps out at the viewer, presenting rich, vibrant color and tantalizing lustrous brilliance. Undoubtedly a piece bound for a connoisseur." This type was struck 1949-52. It was the second half penny for George VI and dropped "IND:IMP" from the reverse legend. It is common tho the proofs are rare.
Recorded mintage: 24,744,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 5.67 g, bronze, 25.4 mm diameter, plain edge.
