This specimen was lot 10744 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $822. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Bern. Taler, 1795. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Two plumes in hat. Attractively toned." The type is listed for 1795-97 and was the first thaler issued in Bern since 1679. A single plume variety also exists (Dav-1760). The canton of Bern was invaded and occupied by revolutionary French armies in 1794.
