Sincona sale 95, lot 4176

This specimen was lot 4176 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$589 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Batzen 1795, Bern. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, batzen of 1795, Bern mint. Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

160 kreuzer = forty batzen = one thaler. The canton of Bern was invaded and occupied by revolutionary French armies in 1794.
