Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72105

This specimen was lot 72105 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1825. London Mint. George IV. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown Gold Shield. A delightfully charming near Gem, exhibiting reddish-brown radiance augmented by some hints of violet. The luster is blazing and the overall eye appeal is captivating. From the Regent Crest Collection." This type was struck 1821-26 and is fairly common. It is the first issue of farthings since 1806.

Recorded mintage: 4,300,000.
