This specimen was lot 32232 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $6,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George IV gold Sovereign 1825 MS62+ NGC. First laureate head type. The changeover year from Pistrucci's laureate portrait of George to Wyon's bare head, and far more commonly seen with the latter, the present type is a significant rarity of the entire Sovereign series. Very sharp for its grade as indicated through its 'plus' designation, abundant mint luster giving way to Prooflike reflectivity in the recesses. Scarcely ever found in this exalted quality."

Recorded mintage: 4,200,000 (includes Fr-377), a rare date compared to the bare head type.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-376a, KM 696, S-3801.
