The first specimen was lot 20914 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "George IV gold Half Sovereign 1825, Laureate Head, MS63 NGC, a number of small abrasions but brilliant luster and certainly nicer than most seen." This type is listed for 1823-25 and is very scarce as is the superseding bare head type of 1826-28 (KM 700). Half sovereigns would not be minted in large numbers until the 1840's.

Recorded mintage: 761,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold.
