Great Britain 1806 farthing

Ponterio sale 150, lot 9416

This coin was lot 9416 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $161. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1806. Bronzed restrike. NGC PF-64 BN." This is the only date of farthing between 1799 and 1821. Despite a desperate shortage of small change which permitted the issue of a profusion of counterfeits and private tokens, the mint made little effort to produce copper coins until the 1820's. This farthing was accompanied by a half penny and penny (KM 663). This restrike was produced for collectors.
