Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 43343

This specimen was lot 43343 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopeks, 1812 EM HM. Alexander I. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown." This type was struck in large numbers 1810-30 at Ekaterinburg (shown here) Izhora, Kolyvan and St. Petersburg but few survive in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 132,085,000.

Specification: 13.65 g, copper, 29 mm diameter, obliquely reeded edge.
