Revision as of 11:02, 17 June 2023
The first specimen was lot 24680 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 4 Escudos 1833 Go-MJ, Guanajuato mint, AU53 NGC. The rarest denomination to find in attractive grade for this classic hand on book type. This is also a rare date, rated as Extremely Rare by Long, who reported only coins up to the XF-AU grade in his census." Guanajuato is the most available mint for this scarce denomination but many individual dates are rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.54 g, .875 fine gold, .381 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Fr-83; KM-381.4.
