This specimen was lot 1323 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 1,350 euros (about US$2,228 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted, "''1786. Sevilla. C. 8 escudos. Atractiva. Parte de brillo original. Escasa. EBC-/EBC'' (Eight escudos of 1786, Seville mint; attractive, with some mint luster, scarce, Extremely Fine.)"  This type was struck 1786-88 and like all Spanish eight escudos as distinct from Spanish colonial eight escudos, is very rare. It is distinguished by earlier issues of Charles III (1773-84) by being only .875 fine instead of .901 fine gold.
