from Heritage sale 3049, lot 30701
Egypt H3049-30701r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30701 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold "Wrestling" 50 Pounds AH 1412 (1992) MS67 PCGS. A rare Olympics commemorative issue with several luster breaks and the 1/2 globe limiting a finer grade. From a reported mintage of only 49 coins." Egypt issued eight different types for the 1992 Olympics. The tiny mintage suggests the whole issue went to government insiders. The SCWC has only sketches of these, no photos.

Recorded mintage: 49 plus 99 proofs.

Specification: 8.5 g, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-240 (formerly Fr-152); KM 718.
