Egypt H3049-30693r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30693 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold "Swimming" 50 Pounds AH 1412 (1992) MS68 PCGS. Very close to pristine with a couple copper-colored blushes on both sides. From a reported mintage of only 49 and the first example we have offered." Egypt issued eight different types for the 1992 Olympics. The tiny mintage suggests the whole issue went to government insiders. The SCWC has only sketches of these, no photos.

Recorded mintage: 49 plus 99 proofs.

Specification: 8.5 g, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-246 (formerly Fr-158); KM 713.
