The first specimen was lot 3434 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$399 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Vierteldukat 1649, Zürich. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Schrötlingsriss. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zürich, quarter ducat of 1649, Zürich mint. Rare, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Flan crack.)"
The second specimen was lot 4628 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$544 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Vierteldukat 1649, Zürich. Selten. Vorzüglich. Gewellt. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zürich, quarter ducat of 1649, Zürich mint. Rare, Extremely Fine, Wavy flan.)"
The SCWC lists this type for 1641, 1645, 1649, 1651 and 1670-71. While many Zürich quarter ducats are quite affordable, this one is scarce, although these examples did not realize the catalog value.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 0.83 g, the second specimen 0.85 g.
